Convert an image to editable text with OCR

The Image to Text Converter reads printed English characters inside a photo, screenshot, scanned receipt, document image, or presentation slide. Optical character recognition, usually called OCR, identifies letter shapes and returns plain text that you can edit instead of typing the image manually. Processing happens inside your browser with a local OCR engine.

How to extract text from JPG, PNG, or WebP

  1. Select a clear image up to 15 MB or drag it into the upload area.
  2. Turn on contrast improvement when the page is faded, grey, or photographed in uneven light.
  3. Press Extract text and wait while the English OCR model analyses the pixels.
  4. Proofread the editable result, then copy it or save it as a TXT file.

When an online image text extractor is useful

OCR can recover a quotation from a screenshot, digitize printed notes, capture product details, turn a photographed notice into searchable text, or move a paragraph from an image into a document. For multi-page scanned files, use our PDF OCR tool. If an image is too large to share, reduce it first with the image compressor.

How to improve OCR accuracy

Use a straight, high-resolution image where text fills most of the frame. Even lighting, strong contrast, horizontal lines, and ordinary printed fonts produce better results. Crop borders when possible and avoid motion blur, glare, shadows, handwriting, curved pages, decorative lettering, and text placed over a busy background. Always verify names, prices, dates, account numbers, and other important details after extraction.

Image to text converter FAQs

Can it read handwriting?

It is optimized for printed English. Neat handwriting may produce partial text, but handwriting recognition is not guaranteed.

Why are some words incorrect?

Low resolution, unusual fonts, tilted lines, glare, and poor contrast make similar characters harder to distinguish. Try a clearer image and the contrast option.

Are uploaded images stored?

The selected image is processed by the OCR code in your browser and is not intentionally uploaded by this tool.

Can I extract text from a screenshot?

Yes. Screenshots with sharp, horizontal printed text usually work particularly well.
