Test your microphone before a call or recording
This online microphone test confirms whether a browser can access your mic and receive a useful signal. The live sound meter, waveform, peak indicator, device information, and short playback check help diagnose silent, quiet, distorted, or incorrectly selected microphones before a meeting, interview, class, stream, or voice recording.
Microphone access requires a secure HTTPS page and explicit permission. Live analysis happens in the browser. SmartToolsNest does not intentionally upload the microphone stream or playback sample.
How to perform a reliable mic check
- Connect the headset, USB mic, or audio interface you plan to use.
- Start the test and approve browser microphone permission.
- Select the correct input, then speak at your normal distance and volume.
- Check for steady waveform movement without repeated red clipping.
- Record and listen to a short sample to check clarity, echo, and background noise.
Troubleshooting a microphone that is not working
Confirm that the physical mute switch is off, raise the operating-system input level, allow microphone access for the browser, close apps that may hold the device, and select the correct input. Bluetooth headsets may reconnect with a different profile. If the meter moves but calls remain silent, check the microphone selected inside the meeting application itself.
