Split shared costs without confusing arithmetic
Calculate an easy group breakdown for rent, utilities, groceries, trips, parties and subscriptions. Equal mode gives everyone the same amount. Weighted mode handles different room sizes, usage levels, family sizes or any agreement where shares are not identical.
Equal versus weighted expense splitting
Equal share = total divided by people. For a weighted split, each amount equals total multiplied by that person's weight divided by all weights combined.
Simple weighted example
For a $300 expense and weights 2, 1 and 1, the total weight is 4. The first person owes $150 while the other two owe $75 each.
Agree on what the total includes
Before sharing the result, confirm whether tips, delivery, deposits, refunds or private purchases are included. This avoids disputes that calculation alone cannot resolve.
