Shared Expense Split Calculator

Split shared costs without confusing arithmetic

Calculate an easy group breakdown for rent, utilities, groceries, trips, parties and subscriptions. Equal mode gives everyone the same amount. Weighted mode handles different room sizes, usage levels, family sizes or any agreement where shares are not identical.

Equal versus weighted expense splitting

Equal share = total divided by people. For a weighted split, each amount equals total multiplied by that person's weight divided by all weights combined.

Simple weighted example

For a $300 expense and weights 2, 1 and 1, the total weight is 4. The first person owes $150 while the other two owe $75 each.

Agree on what the total includes

Before sharing the result, confirm whether tips, delivery, deposits, refunds or private purchases are included. This avoids disputes that calculation alone cannot resolve.

Frequently asked questions

How do I split a bill equally?+

Enter the total amount and number of people. Equal mode divides the total into the same amount per person.

What is a weighted expense split?+

Weighted mode assigns proportional shares. A person with weight 2 pays twice the amount of someone with weight 1.

Can I include tax, service fees or delivery charges?+

Yes. Add them to the total expense before splitting, or use the optional extra charge field.

Can one person have a zero share?+

Yes in weighted mode. A zero weight excludes that person from payment while keeping their name in the breakdown.

How are rounding differences handled?+

Amounts display to two decimals. The final person receives any small rounding adjustment so displayed shares add to the exact total.

Is this only for restaurant bills?+

No. Use it for rent, utilities, groceries, holidays, gifts, subscriptions or any shared cost.

Does the calculator track who already paid?+

No. It calculates what each person owes; it does not store payments or personal information.

Is my expense information private?+

Yes. The calculation runs locally in the browser and is not saved to the website database.
